LIFE PROJECT

La Verea is a path

La Verea is a life project traced in the dark earth of Lanzarote. A narrow path that connects us with the steps that brought us here and with those we still have to take.

La Verea is a declaration of intent. It is patience, because the grape doesn't understand haste. It is perseverance, perhaps resilience, because here nothing stands still; the Atlantic never ceases against the rocks; the warm winds never stop blowing. And it is intuition, because in every decision we make—from the tasks of the vine to the intricacies of winemaking—there is something that cannot be measured, only felt.

CABRERA BERNAL

La Verea is family

This path begins in the heart of Tinajo, in an area called Hoya la Perra. Here, Malvasía and Listán Negro vines grow over 100 years old. This vineyard was worked by my grandfather, Juan Cabrera Cabrera. He used to take me by donkey and cart from Tajaste when I was a child. While he tended the land—with his bent back, his weathered hands, and his old hat—I played in the vines, unaware of the role he and those trips to the vineyard would play in my life, still not understanding the significance of that place.

Today, more than a hundred years after those vines took root, this piece of land still stands and not only gives us the grapes with which we make our wines: it gives us our identity. Because before being La Verea, we were a child and a grandfather among centuries-old vines and lava rocks.

CABRERA BERNAL
Juan Cabrera
Grandfather was a root. He tilled the land without fanfare, with his back to the sun and his soul to the wind, and planted the first vines without a thought of legacy. But they are there, and with them, the destiny of those who would come after them.
CABRERA BERNAL
Joaquín Cabrera
Joaquín has the patience of someone who knows how to wait and the perseverance of someone who has seen it all happen. When something goes wrong, he quietly straightens it out. He asks nothing more of the land than that the grape speak clearly.
CABRERA BERNAL
Eli Bernal
Eloísa is that presence that establishes order, that organizes without being noticed, that decides without raising her voice. Nothing happens without her knowing about it. And if it does, it's because she chose to let it happen.
CABRERA BERNAL
Sergio Cabrera
Sergio walks with his own steps, but he carries within him the footprints of everyone. He learns, looks ahead, and decides. He knows history well, and that gives him the freedom to write his own.
WINERY

La Verea is Tinajo

In Tinajo, the stone walls of La Verea cling to the ground as if they knew this island offers nothing. Our winery is made of ash and wind. It welcomes us without rituals, without embellishments, with the simplicity of what is genuine and authentic. Like the wines we make there.

Our winery is designed for minimal intervention winemaking. Every detail, from the architecture that favors gravity as a natural ally to the functional arrangement of the different vessels and spaces, serves a single purpose: to preserve varietal purity and showcase the potential of the island's native varieties grown under extreme conditions.

WINERY

La Verea is
ancient basalt,
ash, and the Atlantic

The influence of the Atlantic, the scarce rainfall, and Lanzarote's soils, shaped by ash and ancient basalt, define the character of everything that grows on the island and turn these grapes into a miracle. Everything here is improbable, a testament to resilience.

Ancient basalt
The most remote witness to the island's volcanic origins. Compact, black rocks provide structure and minerality to soils poor in organic matter, forcing the vine to strive, dig deep, and adapt. From this effort comes wines with vibrant acidity, a taut structure, and an unmistakable mineral expression.
Ashes
The Timanfaya eruptions in the 18th century covered this land with a thick layer of volcanic ash, known as picón, which acts as a natural insulator, retaining moisture and protecting the roots from extreme heat so the vines can survive, grow, and mature slowly. The ash is, paradoxically, what makes cultivation possible in a landscape that, at first glance, seems uninhabitable.
Atlantic
The Atlantic is a constant, silent presence that defines the character of Lanzarote's vineyards. Its trade winds moderate the island's extreme climate, reduce the risk of disease, and act as a natural temperature regulator, providing freshness even in the most intense summers. It is the source of precise acidity, vibrant tension, and a subtlety that balances the mineral strength of the soil.
VITICULTURE

La Verea is about giving it your all

Since I was a child, I've seen how everything here demands giving it your all. Working in the vineyard is an act of perseverance, experienced with the earth beneath your feet and the sky as your witness. At La Verea, we cultivate our vines following traditional systems, on ancient volcanic soils, poor in organic matter, which honor the manual labor and tireless dedication of the winemaker, who has learned to communicate with this demanding land like no one else.

WINEMAKING

La Verea is a
declaration of intent

We know that observing isn't enough; we must feel, experience, and enjoy the pleasure of creating, honestly and without constraints. That's what our wines are like; authentic and full of nuances that evoke the unique character of this island's grapes.
